I. Introdauction

 Philippine Literature 

            Is a diverse and rich group of works that has evolved side-by-side with the country’s history. Literature had started with fables and legends made by the ancient Filipinos long before the arrival of Spanish influence. The main themes of Philippine literature focus on the country’s pre-colonial cultural traditions and the socio-political histories of its colonial and contemporary traditions.

             It is not a secret that many Filipinos are unfamiliar with much of the country's literary heritage, especially those that were written long before the Spaniards arrived in our country. This is due to the fact that the stories of ancient time were not written, but rather passed on from generation to generation through word of mouth. Only during 1521 did the early Filipinos became acquainted with literature due to the influenced of the Spaniards on us. But the literature that the Filipinos became acquainted with are not Philippine-made, rather, they were works of Spaniards authors. So successful were the efforts of colonists to blot out the memory of the country's largely oral past that present-day. Filipino writers, artists, and journalists are trying to correct this inequity by recognizing the country's wealth of ethic traditions and disseminating them in schools through mass media.

             The rise of nationalistic pride in the 1960's and 1970's also helped bring about this change of attitude among a new breed of Filipinos concerned about the "Filipino Identity".

              This posts give you an access on what is happening on Filipino literature. Through this, it can help us understand and appreciate Philippine Literature. 

Short Story.

"A long time ago there was a big city called sitba. The city is a wonderful place filled with beautiful infrastructures and nice people. However the city had a unique secret. The secret is two royal family lives there."

                The two royal families are Abba’s family and Sitan’s family, but there is a major problem. Abba and sitan families are mortal enemies. The families fight started when sitan’s family didn’t give Abba’s Family their rights for the land which they were supposed to share with.

                When their families meet there is always trouble. The knight’s of Abba’s will attack the knight’s of Sitan’s. Whenever the knight’s of Abba’s and Sitans meet there is always a blood and death. Even though Abba and Sitan are cold blooded warriors. They still have a soft spot for their families.

               Abba has a beautiful wife named Idianale. Abba and Idianale has three kids. Their names are Dumakulem, Hanan and Anitun-Tabu.

           Dumakulem is the eldest of them all and he is a fearsome warrioir. Hanan is the eldest girl and Anitun-tabu is the youngest and that’s the family of Abba’s.

                Sitan also has a family he has a wife named Manisilat. Sitan and manisilat also has three kids. There are Mankukulam, Sonat and Bayungin.

                Manukulam is the eldest. Even though she’s a woman, Mankukulam is also a fearsome warrior. Sonat is the oldest boy and Bayugin is the youngest.

                Hanan the dauther of Abba and Sonat the son of Sitan has a love connection. Their father’s don’t have any idea about there lovestory.

Every night hanan and sonat goes out of their place to go into the center of the city. Just to see each other.

                But one night when hanan was in the city her father caught her. But he didn’t stop hanan, what he did is tell Dumakulem to her sister. After following hanan Dumakulem now knows where her sister is going. Then Dumakulen reported to his father.

  

              “Dad! I have a bad news for you”. Dumakulem said. “What is it my child?” His father replied. Now I know where hanan is going every night, haman was meeting with the son of our mortal foe! Dumakulem angrily said. What! Her father said.

                Then his father went to hanan’s room and confronts her. Hanan didn’t deny they relationship between her and Sonat.

               So do you really love sonat? Her father asks. Yes father! Hanan replied. OK then father said. After the conversation with her father hanan still goes out to meet up with sonat in the center of the city.

  

              Hi! Babe, how was your day? Sonat asked. Its fine babe I just had a small talk with dad about our relationship.” Hanan replied.

              oh! so how was the small talk with your dad? Sonat asked. Well dad already knows about our relationship." Hanan replied.

              My father would like to talk to you." Hanan said. OK babe! Sonat answered.After seeing each other. The two of them went to Hanan's house so that Sonat can ask Hanan's father for the hand of his daughter.

              With all due respect sir, I would like to ask for your daughter's hand in marriage." Sonat said.Do you really love my daughter?'' Hanan's father asked.Yes sir I love her with all my heart!. Sonat proudly answered.So then! there is no more question to be ask. I allow you to marry my daughter.''Hanan's father said.
             The two king's settle their differences for the sake of their children.And finally Sonat and Hanan got married and they live happily ever after.. "THE END"

Summary of Poetry

• POETRY 

- uses forms and conventions to suggest differential interpretation to words, or to evoke emotive responses. Devices such as assonance,alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. The use of ambiguity, symbolism, irony and other stylistic elements of poetic diction often leaves a poem open to multiple interpretations.

 Similarly, metaphor, simile and metonymy  create a resonance between otherwise disparate images—a layering of meanings, forming connections previously not perceived. Kindred forms of resonance may exist, between individual verses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm.

" THREE GROUPS OF POETRY "

I.  Narrative poetry 

         - is a form of poetry which tells a story, often making use of the voices of a narrator and characters as well; the entire story is usually written in metred verse. The poems that make up this genre may be short or long, and the story it relates to may be complex. It is usually dramatic, with objectives, diverse characters, and metre.

1.)Ballad - is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads derive from the medievalFrench chanson balladée or ballade, which were originally "dancing songs".

2.)Mertrical Tale – a series of events or facts told or presented.

3.)Epic - (from the Ancient Greek adjective ἐπικός (epikos), from ἔπος (epos) "word, story, poem") is a lengthy narrative poem, ordinarily concerning a serious subject containing details of heroic deeds and events significant to a culture or nation.

II. Lyric poems 

         - typically express personal or emotional feelings and is traditionally the home of the present tense. They have specific rhyming schemes and are often, but not always, set to music or a beat.

1.)    Song – a poem set to music.

2.)    Sonnet – a fixed verse form of Italian origin consisting of fourteen lines.

3.)    Elegy – a poem expressing sorrow or lamentation for one who is dead.

4.)    Ode – a poem usually marked by exaltation of feeling and style. It is used to praise a leader or memorialize an occasion.

5.)    Lullabies – a soothing refrain, specifically a song to quite down children or lull them to sleep.

III.  Dramatic poetry 

       – includes plays which are written in verse.

1.) Dramatic monologue – a literary work in which a character reveals himself in a dramatic sketch performed by himself alone.

2.) Soliloquy – the act of talking to oneself.

3.) Character sketch – a poem which dramatize the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual. 

4.) Prose poetry – a narrative in poetry form
